My May 29th appearance on @fox5ny never happened. This is what happened instead.

The day before I flew out the producers asked if I could bring a pit bull with me in studio. I told them I could bring Kuma Theroux! A great opportunity to educate alongside a precious velvet ambassador. When I arrived in NYC the Executive Producer told me my appearance was cancelled. I wasn’t even off the plane yet. She said it would be “insensitive to have me on the show talking about a comedy event when a pit bull mauled a baby to death this morning.” I had no idea what she was talking about but I felt like I was being shamed and punished for it. I explained I traveled three days early to do the show and how unfortunate this was – to which she replied “well, it’s unfortunate a one month old baby was killed.”

As the clickbait story was spreading like wildfire it was announced the story was wrong. Not true. Ya know – FAKE NEWS. She never acknowledged it or allowed me to appear in studio but told me I could come the next morning and stand outside of the building on the sidewalk with Kuma – (A New Yorker! Who’s been on the today show TWICE! And travels the world!) and plug the event. She told me it would be hard to get a dog “her size clearance to come into the building, so I declined. Yesterday Good Day New York had a dog in studio talking about flea & tick season who was much larger than Kuma. (Pic #6)

For decades “pit bulls” (a term used to describe a dog based solely on appearance) have been and continue to be wrongly vilified, blamed and banned. The media never reports the whole story and the owners are rarely ever held accountable for irresponsible and/or cruel treatment of the dogs. Millions of loving adoptable dogs have been slaughtered because of the media’s obsession to vilify them and get clicks. It’s horrifying, sad and tragic when a peron of any age get hurt by an animal of any kind. It’s also most often times preventable. Headlines are what people remember and they continue to deeply damage to the cause. Facts, truth and the whole story matter. NYACC – who are well over capacity confirmed factless fake stories like this one make it harder for dogs to get adopted. – Rebecca Corry
