Luther was shot in the head and left for dead in rural Alabama. He had a broken leg and wounds all over his body consistent with dogfighting. Dogs who lose fights are often times shot or killed is some other horrific manner by the underbelly of humanity.
Luther survived the unthinkable and ended up at @bullockcountyhumane. When the @standupforpitsfoundation was made aware of Luther, we funded all the medical care he needed to put his broken little body back together. Then two magical humans who were following his story offered to foster Luther and without them, he would have never gotten the incredible life they have given him. Luther’s transition to their pack and others in the home was far from easy and after a few serious incidents in the home — it seemed as though there were no more options and perhaps what he’d been through was too much for him to overcome. But his foster parents made some changes, set some clear boundaries and worked out a system for Luther that would keep him and all others in the home safe. @liftlarge90k and @edwards_kamila are exceptional examples of what happens when you don’t give up on a dog. Changes, restructuring of the environment, concistency and lots of love have provided Luther with a beautiful life and loving home. We want to thank his amazing humans and precious dog brothers and sisters for allowing Luther this chance.
If you know anyone who is considering dumping their dog at a shelter because they “don’t have time,” “the dog doesn’t get along with their other dog,” “they are moving,” “got a new job” or whatever reason they believe is valid — send them this story.
